Africa: AUC Chairperson This Afternoon Received H.E. Ms. Ayano Kunimitsu, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan

The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, this afternoon received H.E. Ms. Ayano Kunimitsu, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of #Japan, at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The Chairperson welcomed Minister Kunimitsu & underscored over three decades of strong AU-Japan cooperation, notably through the TICAD process, hailing TICAD 9 held in Yokohama as a significant milestone in the partnership.

Discussions focused on further strengthening bilateral cooperation, including Japan's continued support to @AfricaCDC, as well as enhanced investment in infrastructure development as a catalyst for sustainable growth & integration across Africa.

Minister Kunimitsu commended the successful convening of TICAD 9 & reaffirmed Japan's commitment to working closely with the AU Commission towards TICAD 10, to be held in Africa, while reiterating support for AU priority initiatives, including PIDA & the AfCFTA.

The Minister also welcomed Africa's growing role in global governance, noting the AU's accession to the G20 as a transformative development. They both reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation through the AU-Japan High-Level Dialogue & TICAD, & to upholding multilateralism.
