13 January 2026

Kampala police carried out a major early morning operation on Tuesday, arresting 80 suspects in a bid to curb criminal activities across the city.

The operation, conducted at around 2am, targeted known crime hotspots including Arua Park, Old Taxi Park, Nakivubo Road, Biwologoma, Nkrumah, Punjani, and Mukwano Roundabout.

Authorities said the crackdown focused on individuals involved in waylaying members of the public and other unlawful activities.

"All suspects are currently in police custody pending court appearance," said Racheal Kawala, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Area, while addressing reporters.

Kawala emphasized that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of residents and commuters. She added that police will maintain a strong presence in identified black spots to deter criminal activity.

"Operations will continue as we work to remove criminal elements and protect the people of Kampala," Kawala said.
