Two senior officials of Kamuli District Local Government have been charged before the Anti-Corruption Court over the alleged embezzlement of more than Shs600 million intended for road rehabilitation and maintenance.
The accused, Nasser Mukiibi, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and Alex Kifuuse, the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), were arraigned on Monday afternoon by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (Shacu) in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
They face charges of abuse of office and causing financial loss.
According to Shacu spokesperson Mariam Natasha, the alleged offences were committed between May and June 2025.

"The accused persons, while employed by Kamuli District Local Government as Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Finance Officer, together with another suspect still at large, abused the authority of their offices by arbitrarily processing and approving payments that were prejudicial to the interests of their employer," Natasha said.
She explained that the funds were irregularly paid to several suppliers, including Raven Knights Ltd, Total Uganda Limited, and Mufumba Daniel, the district engineer.
"The payments were purportedly made for fuel, construction materials, diversion and traffic control signs, allowances and other items meant for the rehabilitation of the Nawanyago-Kisozi Road," Natasha added.
Investigations revealed that the rehabilitation works earmarked for the Financial Year 2024/2025 were never carried out, despite the full expenditure of the allocated funds.
"Although the money was fully spent, the intended road works were not done," the spokesperson noted, describing the actions as a clear loss to public resources.
The court remanded the two officials until January 20, 2026, as investigations continue. Authorities say efforts are underway to apprehend the third suspect, who remains at large.
This case adds to a growing list of prosecutions targeting alleged misuse of public funds, particularly those intended for critical infrastructure and service delivery at the local government level.
