Incumbent Member of Parliament for Mityana North, Muhammad Kibedi Nsegumire, has been re-elected for a second term after winning a closely watched parliamentary contest that pitched the ruling National Resistance Movement against the opposition National Unity Platform.
According to official results, Kibedi polled 18,365 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Isaac Tomusange of NUP, who secured 11,194 votes.
The race attracted a total of five candidates, although the contest largely revolved around the NRM and NUP rivalry, reflecting the intense political competition in the constituency.
Speaking shortly after being declared winner, Kibedi thanked voters for renewing their confidence in him and described the result as a significant boost for the ruling party in Mityana District.

"I am grateful to the people of Mityana North for trusting me once again. I am also happy that NRM has managed to secure additional parliamentary seats in this district," Kibedi said.
He said the increase in NRM representation would strengthen the party's influence in the district and make it easier to implement government programmes.
"Having more NRM legislators in Mityana will give the party greater strength to effectively roll out government programmes and improve service delivery for our people," he added.
Kibedi pledged to immediately resume work from where he left off in his previous term, promising inclusive leadership that prioritises development over political affiliation.
"I will serve all residents of Mityana North without discrimination. Development has no political colour, and my duty is to represent everyone," he said.
In the 2026 general elections, NRM secured three parliamentary seats in Mityana District. These include Mityana North, won by Kibedi Nsegumire; Mityana South, taken by Henry Kamya Makumbi; and the District Woman MP seat, retained by Judith Nabakooba.
Mityana has traditionally been regarded as an opposition stronghold, particularly for the National Unity Platform.
However, the latest election outcomes suggest a shifting political landscape, with NRM making notable inroads in constituencies previously dominated by the opposition.
Political observers say the results could signal a renewed contest for influence in the district, as NUP is expected to reorganise and attempt to reclaim the seats it lost during the current election cycle.

For now, Kibedi's victory consolidates his political standing in Mityana North and reinforces NRM's growing footprint in a district where opposition politics has historically been dominant.
