Former Common Man's Party (CMP) presidential candidate Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga, has renewed calls for comprehensive electoral reforms, urging authorities to strengthen transparency, accountability, and the integrity of Uganda's electoral process.
Speaking on NBS Eagle on Sunday, Munyagwa stressed the urgent need for reforms in the handling and announcement of presidential election results, arguing that the current system undermines public trust.
"It is time for Ugandans to demand meaningful electoral reform," Munyagwa said. "Presidential results should be announced at administrative centers to ensure transparency and prevent manipulation during transmission."
The former Kawempe South Member of Parliament also criticized the lack of legal consequences for electoral officials implicated in malpractice, describing it as a critical gap in the country's electoral framework.

"There should be clear laws that penalise returning officers or presiding officers involved in vote rigging," he said. "Such a law does not exist, and that gap continues to enable electoral fraud."
According to Munyagwa, the absence of strong accountability mechanisms for election officials has contributed to recurring allegations of irregularities in past elections, ultimately eroding public confidence in democratic institutions.
He urged Parliament and relevant authorities to prioritise electoral reforms ahead of future polls, warning that failure to act could further weaken the credibility of Uganda's elections.
