Keetmanshoop — A suspended security officer from the Namibia Desert Diamonds (Namdia), Charles Rhoman, appeared last week at the Keetmanshoop Magistrates Court in relation to the Namibian gems marketing company's robbery incident over a year ago.

During court proceedings, his legal representative Theo Carolus called for his client's immediate release, citing reasons of the warrant of arrest and search warrants lacking essential information in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act.

In his ruling, Magistrate Mulonda Masuku concurred with the defence council that the town's court does not have jurisdiction over the matter since the issues raised by Carolus have relevance to the district of Bethanie and accordingly transferred it to the Bethanie Magistrates Court for 26 January 2026 as the next appearance date. The accused was remanded in custody.

Rhoman stands accused of allegedly obstructing the course of justice as well as contravening sections of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, from which he allegedly benefits from the proceeds from the action.

The heist left two employees dead last year when diamonds worth an estimated N$314.9 million were stolen.

Only those worth N$40.6 million have since been recovered.
