Angola: Kianda International Short Film Festival Showcases 50 Films

Luanda — The organization of the VII Edition of the Kianda International Short Film Festival, called "Fesc-Kianda," which kicked off on Friday (23) in Luanda, announced that the event will screen only 50 films out of the 600 received.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony, the festival director, Vânio Almeida, said that the short film screenings will take place from the 24th to the 29th of the month, "in a hybrid format in Angola and Brazil."

He explained that they have 10 documentaries, the same number of anime (cartoons), and 30 short films whose themes and content were chosen by the competitors.

Alluding to the 450th anniversary of the city of Luanda, celebrated on Sunday (25), Vânio Almeida revealed for the current Edition the prize for the winner is 1,000,000 kwanzas, the 2nd will receive 500,000 Kwanzas and 100,000 for other categories.

On the other hand, he mentioned that the Edition is also honoring the Angolan filmmaker Óscar Gil for his contribution to the development of cinema in Angola.

The event's agenda includes film screenings, competitive and non-competitive short film showcases, lectures and panel discussions with industry professionals, workshops and master classes, as well as technical and artistic training for emerging filmmakers.

It also includes business meetings and networking opportunities for filmmakers, producers, entrepreneurs, companies, and investors, in addition to a photographic exhibition and trade fairs.

The 7th Edition of the International Film Festival is an initiative of "AVS Lequeus - service provision" in partnership with the production company "Mancha Negra".
