Mercy Kanyesigye, a former independent canddiate for the National Female Youth Member of Parliament for the 2026-2031 term, has petitioned President Museveni seeking his guidance and intervention in the election.
In a letter dated February 2, 2026, Kanyesigye congratulated Museveni on his re-election victory, praising what she described as his visionary leadership.
"Your visionary leadership has brought stability, development, peace and renewed hope to the youth of Uganda," she wrote.
Kanyesigye, who identifies herself as a dedicated National Resistance Movement cadre and the Youth Chairperson of the Kasagama Sub-County NRM Youth League, alleged that the party primaries for the National Female Youth MP seat were marred by widespread irregularities.
She cited voter bribery, intimidation, coercion involving state officials and the misuse of state resources to favour another candidate.
"I bring this petition with utmost respect and loyalty to the Movement, highlighting heinous crimes against the Movement's democracy," Kanyesigye said.
She appealed to President Museveni to intervene and ensure that the election process reflects the NRM's stated commitment to democracy, transparency and fairness.
Kanyesigye said her petition was motivated by a desire to protect the integrity of youth representation and restore confidence in internal party electoral processes.
