Africa: Addis Ababa Bars Motorcycles As AU Summit Precaution

City officials have prohibited the use of motorcycles in Addis Ababa while Ethiopia's capital hosts the 39th African Union summit.

The ban, which officials cite as a security measure, is in effect beginning today, February 11, 2026, and will remain in place until after the summit ends on Sunday, according to the Addis Ababa Transport Bureau.

The city administration has also cautioned there will be road closures and parking restrictions enforced throughout the city.
