Kenya: Three Police Officers Killed in Road Accident Along Mwingi-Matuu Highway

16 February 2026

Nairobi — Three police officers oni Sunday lost their lives following a road accident along the Matuu-Mwingi Road at the Mwatungo area.

According to a police report, the accident occurred after a police vehicle they were traveling in developed a mechanical problem after the front left wheel locked.

The report indicated that following this, it veered off the road to the right and rolled several times.

It pointed out that the officers were returning from Kanyonyo, where they had gone to effect an arrest.

The accident vehicle has since been towed to the station for inspection as investigations into the incident continue.

Authorities are expected to conduct a mechanical inspection of the vehicle to establish the exact cause of the wheel malfunction and determine whether other factors may have contributed to the crash.
