The commissioning ceremony was held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Nyarutembe Community Secondary School in Gicaca Village, Nyabwishenya Sub-county, Kisoro District.

The laboratory includes 12 tablets and two desktop computers, providing students with enhanced access to information and communication technology (ICT).

Representing the school, Global Citizenship Coordinator Angelia Crouch explained that the initiative seeks to modernize learning and equip students with skills critical for the digital age.

"The partnership with the school was made possible through the efforts of Francis Bigirimana Bizoza, and the institution is committed to maintaining continued collaboration with the students," Crouch said.

Daniel Avila, leader of the cultural canvas project, noted that cooperation between the two schools enabled students to create artwork that raised about $2,000, which contributed to purchasing part of the laboratory equipment.

The partnership also promotes skills exchange between learners, strengthening practical learning experiences.

Wanjira Jane, head of the Leadership Training Program at the Regional Leadership Center for East Africa and lecturer at Kenyatta University, said their involvement aims to improve learning conditions and noted that education challenges in Uganda and Kenya are similar, requiring collaborative solutions.

School Headteacher Innocent Dushimimana welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the laboratory will modernize teaching methods.

Parents, represented by Alex Friday, emphasized the need for additional government support, as Nyarutembe remains the only secondary school in the sub-county.

Students expressed excitement about the opportunities the laboratory will provide, highlighting expectations for improved ICT skills and enhanced learning experiences.
