Kenya: DPP Seeks Age Verification for Female TikToker in Mombasa Heroin Case

16 February 2026

Nairobi — The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has requested an age assessment and social inquiry report for a female TikToker arrested in connection with a heroin trafficking case in Mombasa, in a move aimed at determining whether she is a minor.

The application was made on Monday when the suspect and her co-accused, Amir Latif, appeared before Resident Magistrate Green Odera.

The two face charges for allegedly trafficking 109.17 grams of heroin, valued at Sh327,510, in the Maweni area of Nyali Sub-County on February 2, 2026.

"The two suspects are set to face charges under Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act No. 4 of 1994, as amended in 2022," the prosecution said.

During the court session, Principal Prosecution Counsel Purity Musembi successfully applied for an age assessment and social inquiry report for the female suspect, citing the need to determine her exact age and whether she should be treated as a minor under the law.

The court directed the Nyali Sub-County Children's Officer to prepare and submit a report establishing the suspect's age and personal circumstances.

The prosecution also opposed the release of the suspects on bond, arguing that narcotics offences are serious and that releasing them could compromise ongoing investigations.

Magistrate Odera ordered the prosecution to file a formal affidavit detailing its opposition to bond.

Pending the outcome of the age assessment, Latif was remanded at Central Police Station, while the female suspect was committed to the Likoni Children's Remand Home.

The case is scheduled for mention on February 18.
