NIC General Insurance has announced the acquisition of the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Certification following a successful audit conducted by Bureau Veritas Certification Holding SAS - UK Branch.
The certification covers the Provision of General (Non-Life) Insurance Services, affirming NIC General's adherence to internationally recognized quality management standards and its commitment to operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and customer-focused service delivery.
ISO 9001:2015 is the world's most recognized quality management standard, emphasizing risk-based thinking, customer satisfaction, continual improvement, and strong governance frameworks.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Mr. Elias Edu, the Managing Director for NIC General Insurance said as insurers operate in an increasingly complex environment characterized by regulatory scrutiny, technological disruption, and rising customer expectations, quality management can no longer be informal or assumed, such international certification is a testament to efforts deliberate efforts to serve the customer.

"This certification affirms that NIC General operates under internationally recognized quality management principles. It reinforces our internal controls, standardizes our processes, strengthens accountability, and embeds risk-based thinking into our operations," Edu said.
"For our customers, this milestone signals reliability. It means improved service consistency, enhanced claims processes, and predictable service standards. For our regulators, it demonstrates alignment with compliance expectations and strong governance frameworks. Edu said beyond compliance and systems, the ISO certification milestone is critical for the company and the legacy it has and the need to protect it.

NIC in 2007 paid shs13 billion in claims to government for the loss of M1-172 presidential helicopter and as compensation to the beneficiaries of the deceased crew and passengers .
The chopper was carrying then South Sudan President, John Garang before in crashed.
NIC also said it paid shs8.2 billion in claims to the police for the crash of its helicopter in Bugiri in 2007 as it carried then Prime Minister, Prof Apollo Nsibambi as well as shs972 million to Industrial Globus Uganda Limited in claim settlement.
Speaking during the function, Bureau Veritas Uganda Country chair, Edwin Kabuleeta described the certification not as a mere piece of paper but a testament to joining a list of global elites.
" This certification is a north star to ensure every employee is moving in the same direction towards customer certification .This is not just a walk in park but required international scrutiny by NIC General Insurance by opening its doors .To other orgnisations, it is not just NIC's win but a challenge to the industry on efficiency, trust and expansion," Kabuleeta said.
He said by adhering to international standards, NIC General Insurance is becoming a benchmark that customers will always be demanding.
Kabuleeta said the certification is valid for three years with constant surveillance of the company to see if requirements are being followed.
Samuel Opake Praise, the Head of Risk at NIC General Insurance Company Ltd, underscored the central role of regulatory compliance and quality assurance in sustaining confidence within the insurance sector.
He explained that the attainment of ISO 9001:2015 certification strengthens the company's internal control systems, enhances documentation protocols, formalizes audit processes, and institutionalizes continuous improvement across business units.
