Nairobi — The Murang'a County Government has announced that Governor Irungu Kang'ata will be away from physical office duties for about one month after sustaining a heel tendon injury.

In a statement, the county government said the governor was attending a Nutrition International meeting in Nairobi when he tripped and injured himself.

The meeting had been organised by Nutrition International, a Canadian government-supported organisation that partners with Murang'a and other counties to implement key nutritional and public health programmes.

Following a medical assessment, doctors advised Governor Kang'ata to refrain from physical engagements to allow for full recovery.

During his absence from in-person duties, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will represent him in events that require the governor's physical presence. The County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof Kiarie, will also handle designated engagements where appropriate.

The county government, however, clarified that Governor Kang'ata will continue to chair official meetings virtually beginning Monday, ensuring continuity of county operations.

The administration thanked residents and stakeholders for their prayers and goodwill, wishing the governor a speedy recovery.

"Murang'a County Government appreciates the continued support as we remain committed to fulfilling the manifesto," the statement read.
