Nairobi — Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) is searching for a new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to replace Mohamud Gedi, who has served in an acting capacity since last year.
The advert in local newspaper states that the MD/CEO will serve a renewable three-year term, subject to performance or mandatory retirement age.
"The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer is the Accounting Officer and is responsible to the Board for day-to-day management, defining and executing strategy, generating revenue, managing risk, ensuring compliance, and growing talent," KAA said. The role requires over 10 years of experience, including five years at top management level.
The position has been occupied in acting capacity for nearly two years following the exit of former MD Alex Gitari in August 2023. Gitari was relieved of his duties by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen after repeated power blackouts at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport disrupted airport operations.
Established in 1991, KAA manages, develops, and maintains Kenyan airports and airstrips, including rescue and firefighting services, airside operations, and regulatory compliance.
