Kenya: Photos - Champagne Time for Casey Jarvis As Magical Kenya Open Lives Up to World-Class Billing

25 February 2026

NAIROBI — Over the years, the Magical Kenya Open presented by Absa has brought to the fore 'little-known' players and changed their lives for the better.

The 57th edition of this DP World Tour event at the Karen Country Club was no different; the star of the show was definitely Casey Jarvis of South Africa who braved the occasional downpour to claim his maiden major crown.

That it was on African soil only added to the joy for the 22-year-old who topped the leaderboard after four rounds of action, with an overall score of 255 points (25-under-par).

From a Kenyan perspective, all joy was coalesced around youngster Njoroge Kibugu who was the only one to make the cut to round three of the competition - out of the 18 representatives.

The 22-year-old was heads and shoulders above his peers in the past year, making history as the first East African to qualify for the prestigious Sunshine Development Tour in December.

By the way that the Windsor Hotel and Golf Country Club player continues to make history, he may as well be a historian of sorts.

This is because in 2022, he grabbed world headlines by making the cut of the Magical Kenya Open - as an amateur.

At this year's edition, he saved the best for last, carding a 5-under-par 65 on Sunday to erase memories of a woeful performance on the course, a day earlier.

Away from the course, the Magical Kenya Open was a mish-mash of sports, fashion, business and entertainment as thousands trooped to Karen Country Club to get the best of what the tournament had to offer.

Even the cold and wet weather was not enough to dampen the electric mood and colourful sights and sounds at every corner of the par 72 course.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and when evening came, it was an opportunity for all and sundry to relax and reflect on the day's happening over a drink, music and friendly conversations with acquaintances and strangers alike.

The atmosphere became even more buzzing as the night fell, with organisers lining up performances by a number of entertainers, such as Nyashinski, Njerae and DJ Grauchi, among others.

The four-day event was also an opportunity for corporates to add more zeroes to their profit margins by reaching out to new customers as well as the old ones.

The fan village was adorned with tents of different companies and businesses offering their target markets the chance of a one-on-one customer service tailored to their needs.

The Absa Kenya tent - the banking partner for MKO - was a particularly a hotspot for many who flocked to experience what they had to offer - not just in terms of financial services but also the entertainment, food and drinks that were on offer.

As the curtains came down on the tournament on Sunday evening, it was yet another evidence of the power of sports in uniting the global society and various sectors, including economy, entertainment, wellness and fitness.

As the countdown begins to the 58th edition, the hope is that it will be much bigger and better than the previous one.

Here's to many more lifetime memories courtesy of the Magical Kenya Open!
