Africa: AUC Chairperson Received H.E. Saad Mubarak Al Naimi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, received H.E. Saad Mubarak Al Naimi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia & Permanent Representative to the AU.

The exchange reaffirmed the growing strategic partnership between the AU & Qatar, reflecting the Union's expanding global influence & convening power.

Discussions explored avenues to further institutionalise cooperation, broadening engagement beyond peace & security to include media, investment, & other priority sectors aligned with Africa's development aspirations.

The Chairperson commended Qatar's constructive diplomatic engagement & support to mediation efforts on the continent, particularly in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as its sustained contribution to advancing peace & stability in Africa.

H.E. Mr. further expressed appreciation for Qatar's commitment to supporting the African Union Mission in #Somalia, including efforts to help address critical funding gaps & ensure operational continuity.

Ambassador Al Naimi acknowledged the Chairperson's leadership in strengthening the AU's global agency & voice within the multilateral system.

The Chairperson extended an invitation to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, to visit the AU Headquarters, underscoring the Union's readiness to elevate cooperation with Qatar in pursuit of shared strategic priorities.
