Uganda: Museveni Salutes Kwar Adhola Owori On His 100th Birthday

President Museveni has commended Moses Stephen Owori, the Kwar Adhola of the Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution, for his century-long life, exemplary leadership, and partnership with the government in promoting the economic prosperity of Tororo District.

"I appreciate you for the work you are doing to build, guide, and administer the kingdom. The Kingdom is commended for the various developmental projects being undertaken for the good of the people of Tororo and the entire nation," Museveni said in a speech delivered by Vice President Jessica Alupo during the centennial birthday celebrations at Elgon View Field on February 28, 2026.

The President praised the Kwar Adhola for fostering unity, supporting government programs, and maintaining a cordial relationship with the NRM government since the restoration of the Tieng Adhola cultural institution.

"Celebration of the life of such a man of wisdom gives us pride and is glorious. It highlights God's promise for obedience that is rewarded with long life," Museveni said, quoting Deuteronomy 5:16, "Honour your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you."

On behalf of the government and personally, Museveni congratulated the Kwar Adhola, calling the milestone "phenomenal" and praising his service, leadership, and counsel to the people of Padhola.

He challenged the kingdom's clerks to document the life and heritage of Kwar Owori for future generations.

In response, the Kwar Adhola thanked the president and vice president for attending the celebrations.

He also reminded the government of pending pledges to the Japadhola, including two vehicles for the kingdom, completion of the palace started 15 years ago, Shs1.5 billion toward the Africa Women University of Science and Technology, and the tarmacking of the Tororo-Nagongera-Busolwe road.

Owori lauded Museveni for elevating Tororo Municipality to city status and creating three new districts to serve the Japadhola and Iteso communities, while urging the president to fast-track their operationalization.

He also paid tribute to Vice President Alupo for facilitating discussions that led to these administrative changes.

Vice President Alupo praised the Kwar Adhola for championing the fight against violence toward women and children and for being a symbol of unity.

She handed over the president's birthday gift of Shs50 million amid cheers from the gathering.

The celebrations attracted religious, political, and cultural leaders, UPDF generals, civil society representatives, and residents of Tororo.

Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Oboth Oboth, also congratulated the Kwar Adhola for his centennial milestone and leadership.

Prior to the main event, the kingdom organized football and netball matches, a marathon, radio programmes, and a thanksgiving mass.

Kwar Adhola Moses Stephen Owori has served as the cultural leader of the Jopadhola community for the past 26 years.
