Uganda: Police Say Election Constables Fully Paid

Police in Moroto have clarified that all Special Police Constables recruited to support security during the 2026 general elections have received their full payment.

A total of 1,296 youth from across the Karamoja sub-region were recruited to serve as Special Police Constables during the election period.

The clarification comes after complaints from some residents alleging that the recruits, who completed training and served during elections, had not been paid.

Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed that all constables have been fully compensated for the months of January and February, during which they served.

"All the Special Police Constables have been paid their dues for the two months they served," Longole said, noting that he has not received any formal complaints regarding non-payment.

He added that only one constable from Nabilatuk District has not yet received payment due to submitting an incorrect National Identification Number (NIN). The administration is addressing the matter to ensure payment once the details are corrected.

Longole also dismissed claims that some constables worked for three months without pay, describing such assertions as unfounded.

Police stressed that recruitment and payment processes followed established procedures and urged anyone with genuine concerns to formally report them to the relevant authorities.
