Angola: National Police Arrest Two Foreigners for Alleged Illegal Diamond Possession

Malanje — At least two citizens from Guinea and Sierra Leone, aged 41 and 42 respectively, were detained on Thursday inside a residence in the Milando municipality, Malanje province, for the alleged illegal possession of 258 diamonds, according to local authorities.

According to Augusto Barros André, spokesperson of the local Criminal Investigation Service, the arrests were made as part of an operation that also resulted in the seizure of 273,500 kwanzas, a calculator, a diamond-weighing balance, an equal number of clamps for collecting and sorting ore, and a lamp for this purpose.

These items were intended for use in the illegal diamond trafficking trade.

This is the second such case recorded in Malanje this year. The first occurred in January with the seizure of 14,000 diamonds in the possession of an Angolan youth in the municipality of Caculama. He is currently in detention.
