The Secretary General of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), Hajj Abas Muluubya, hosted two newly elected Members of Parliament at the council headquarters in Old Kampala.

The visiting legislators were Robert Ssewangudde, MP representing Persons with Disabilities, and Jamal Ayagalachi, MP-elect for Bukooli North in Bugiri District.

During the meeting, Muluubya welcomed the MPs and briefed them on the structure and activities of the UMSC.

"We are delighted to receive you here, and you have joined Parliament at a time when we still have pending issues such as the enactment of enabling laws concerning the operationalisation of the Kadhi Courts that need to be tabled before the floor of Parliament," Muluubya said.

He added that the council looks forward to closer collaboration with legislators to promote national development and address issues affecting the Muslim community.

Ssewangudde, communicating through a sign language interpreter, expressed appreciation for UMSC's commitment to inclusivity, noting that the council employs four deaf staff members.

"I am grateful that UMSC has embraced inclusiveness by employing deaf staff and providing sign language interpretation," he said.

The MP also informed Muluubya of his intention to sponsor nine Muslims with disabilities to perform Hajj in 2026 through the UMSC Hajj and Umrah Office.

He further requested that persons with disabilities be considered as a special category in the State House-sponsored Hajj programme pledged by President Museveni.

Muluubya welcomed the proposal and pledged the council's support for initiatives that promote inclusion within the Muslim community.
