The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has called for greater trust in women's leadership, saying Uganda's progress shows the importance of placing women in positions of responsibility.

In his message marking International Women's Day, Tayebwa credited President Museveni for promoting women to top government positions, noting that their leadership has significantly contributed to national development.

He cited the appointment of Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe as Africa's first female Vice President as a historic milestone that opened doors for more women in leadership.

Tayebwa also pointed to the current female leaders in top offices, including Vice President Jessica Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, saying they continue to deliver for the country.

"Women in our homes, communities and across the country make countless sacrifices to ensure that we live better lives," Tayebwa said, adding that their resilience and dedication continue to shape Uganda's development.

In Uganda, this year's national celebrations are being held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala under the theme "Scaling up Investment to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls in Uganda."

Tayebwa also described the day as personally significant, noting that March 8 marks 21 years since he met his wife in 2005, whom he later married after four years of dating.
