East Africa: Speaker Among Congratulates Museveni On EAC Chairmanship

The Speaker of Parliament and National Resistance Movement (NRM) 2nd Vice Chairperson (Female), Anita Annet Among, has extended her hearty congratulations to President Museveni following his official assumption of the chairmanship of the East African Community.

Taking to her official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, Speaker Among wrote:

"Congratulations, Your Excellency, on the well-deserved trust the region has bestowed upon you. Your steadfastness, experience, and principled Pan-Africanist ideology equip the summit with reliable guidance to effectively steer the region. Hongera sana, Jenerali!"

President Museveni officially took over the EAC chairmanship from his Kenyan counterpart, President William Ruto, during the 25th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State held in Arusha, Tanzania, on Saturday.

The transition places Uganda at the helm of the eight-member regional bloc for the 2026-2027 term.

The summit, attended by leaders from across the region, focused on strengthening regional cooperation, advancing the Community's long-standing goal of economic and political integration, and addressing pressing security and financial challenges facing member states.

Under Museveni's leadership, expectations are high that the EAC will pursue deeper regional integration initiatives, bolster collective security mechanisms, and enhance financial sustainability across the Community.
