Uganda: UTB Advertises Deputy CEO Job As Bradford Ochieng Retires

The Uganda Tourism Board has called upon suitable candidates to apply for the position of deputy Chief Executive Officer.

In the advert in the government newspaper , UTB said it seeks to fill the position of deputy CEO who will be reporting to the Chief Executive Officer but also supervises the manager quality assurance, senior strategic partnership officer and senior MICE officer.

The jobs is for a three year contract.

"The main purpose of the job is to provide strategic and inspirational leadership to UTB team ensuring that UTB has a clear and compelling vision and well and risk assurance plans that result in the nation's mandate and managing the quality assurance function of UTB including ensuring internal risk controls, risk management and governance processes and coordination of support to the private sector institutions," UTB says.

According to UTB, the deputy CEO will also be responsible for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in public procurement and disposal at the board as well as strategy formulation and implementation and performance management.

The deputy CEO will also be responsible for strategy formulation and implementation and performance management, strategic contribution, policy development and review to support UTB operations and processes as well as development of the MICE industry.

Requirements

The body mandated to promote Uganda as a tourist destination says suitable candidates must be Ugandans in possession of a Master's Degree in either management, economics, or business administration; or tourism; or marketing: or law, or any other course closely related to any of the above disciplines from a recognized university.

"Applicants should have a minimum of ten (10) years relevant management experience, seven (7) of which should have been served at a senior management level in a reputable organization as well should have proven experience in tourism, planning, financial and human resource management, marketing, public relations and resource mobilization."

The applicant according to UTB, must have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines as well as have an overall knowledge of the economic and market environment in which the private sector is operating, including the wider African and international regions.

Applications are expected to be received by April, 2, 2026.

The development comes at a time when Bradford Ochieng who has served as the deputy CEO for UTB for the last six years recently retired after clocking the mandatory 60 years .

It is said Ochieng retired earlier this year, prompting the body mandated to promote Uganda as a tourist destination to look for a suitable successor.
