Police in Rubanda District have launched an investigation into a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Monday night.

The victim, identified as Albert Nuwamanya, 36, a resident of Muyumbu in Kyanamira Sub-county, Kabale District, died instantly after his motorcycle was struck by an unidentified vehicle.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the crash occurred around 8:00 p.m. at Bubare Trading Centre along the Kabale-Kisoro Road. Nuwamanya was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration UFQ 036L) when a vehicle traveling in the same direction allegedly rammed into him from behind and fled the scene.

"Police officers visited and documented the crash scene. Nuwamanya's body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the damaged motorcycle was impounded at Rubanda Central Police Station pending inspection," Maate said.

A manhunt is underway to track down the driver responsible for the accident. ASP Maate urged anyone with information to report to the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.

"Investigations into the incident are still ongoing," he added.
