23 March 2026

Police in Kabale have launched investigations into the sudden death of a Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier whose body was discovered in his home after he had been missing for several days.

The deceased, identified as Sgt Robert Tumwesigye, was attached to the 2nd Division and served as an intelligence officer at Mukokye Border in Maziba Sub-county.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed that officers visited and documented the scene before transferring the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

His lifeless body was found lying on his bed at his residence in Mukokye on Monday morning, following a report by the area chairperson, Christopher Nkaneziyo, to Maziba Police Station, Maate said.

Preliminary findings indicate that Sgt. Tumwesigye had been missing for five days prior to the discovery and had been living alone, he added.

Maate further said that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
