Over 1,000 young Ugandans gathered at Muni University over the weekend as BrighterMonday Uganda launched its Gen-Kazi upskilling programme under the theme "Matching Ambition with Opportunity."

The event marked a decisive push toward a skills-first economy in the West Nile region, aiming to bridge the gap between academic output and market demand.

With approximately 700,000 youth entering the Ugandan workforce annually--and 65% of employers reporting a lack of workplace readiness--the Muni University engagement served as a high-level intervention to decentralize opportunity and ensure regional talent meets global standards.

Alfred Okunozi addressed attendees, urging them to recognize that degrees alone are insufficient in today's job market. He encouraged young people to audit their practical skills and focus on competencies that make them employable.

Judith Lenia Latifah, People & Culture Manager at Omia Agribusiness Development Group Ltd, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of problem-solving ability. "In a competitive market, the only thing that matters is your ability to solve real-world problems," she said, closing with a challenge: "Will you be ready for work when you walk out of this room?"

To address the "readiness gap," BrighterMonday integrated its AI Career Assistant into the fair, providing students with recruiter-ready CVs, cover letters optimized for modern Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), AI-driven mock interviews, and guidance through the job application process.

Imma Audrey Grace, Head of Learning & Development at BrighterMonday Uganda, highlighted the importance of courage and initiative. "Opportunity favors the brave. Even the best tools in the world require the courage to use them," she said.

The Muni University engagement sets a new standard for talent development in Uganda. Participants were certified in "Power Skills" such as emotional intelligence, strategic communication, and entrepreneurial acumen, creating a talent pool capable of contributing to corporate objectives from day one.
