Africa: AUC Chairperson Congratulates H.E. Ambassador Nabil Fahmy On Appointment As League of Arab States Secretary-General

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, congratulates H.E. Nabil Fahmy on his appointment as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), describing him as "a highly respected diplomat" with "a wealth of experience" and a strong commitment to multilateralism".

Reaffirming the African Union's long-standing relations with the League of Arab States, the AUC Chairperson underscored the importance of AU-LAS cooperation in advancing peace, security, and sustainable development across both regions.

"In the current global geopolitical context, the AU stands ready to work closely with H.E. Fahmy to deepen cooperation, strengthen policy coordination, and promote common positions in international fora," he added.

The AUC Chairperson also paid tribute to the outgoing Secretary-General, H.E. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, commending his dedicated service and the strong working relationship established with the African Union Commission, which has helped advance AU-LAS cooperation.

The African Union Commission extends its best wishes to H.E. Fahmy for a successful tenure.
