Ignore graphics claiming Kenyan musician Paul Waiganjo has launched campaign for parliamentary seat
IN SHORT: Several social media posts claim that gospel singer Paul Waiganjo is seeking to replace the late David Kiaraho as the Ol Kalou MP. But Waiganjo has dismissed these claims as fake.
Kenyan gospel musician and philanthropist Paul Waiganjo is running for the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat under the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

That's according to a graphic circulating on Facebook in Kenya in late March 2026.
Waiganjo has been actively involved in community engagement initiatives in the Ol Kalou constituency in Nyandarua county, which is about 180 kilometres from the capital Nairobi.
The graphic started circulating after the death of David Kiaraho, the member of parliament for Ol Kalou. Kiaraho died on 29 March while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in the capital, Nairobi.
The graphic also appeared here, here and here, with many users who posted it questioning the timing of Waiganjo's alleged campaign: "Isn't this bad? Don't you think this is too early? Is the UDA party this inhumane?"
But did Waiganjo really launch his campaign for the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat following Kiaraho's death? We checked.
'Fake news alert'
In January, Waiganjo reaffirmed his criticism of the current administration. In a post on his official Facebook page, Waiganjo complained about what he called the steady deterioration of the education and health sectors in Kenya.
He ended the post with the word "wantam", a deliberate misspelling of "one term" and a well-known slogan among president William Ruto's critics, implying that he should only serve a single term in office.
With his documented denunciation of the UDA regime, running as an MP for Ol Kalou on its ticket would be unlikely.
On 29 March, Waiganjo posted the circulating graphic on his official Facebook page, with the word "fake" printed in red.
"Fake news alert! Let's treat this post with the contempt it deserves. In this period, let's mourn Hon David Kiaraho and be tolerant with each other ... politics period will come," he wrote.
