Uganda: Buganda Kingdom Assesses 2023-2028 Strategic Plan Implementation

Leaders from the Buganda Kingdom have received a progress report on the implementation of the Kingdom's Strategic Plan (2023-2028), reviewing achievements and challenges recorded over the past two and a half years.

The leaders later held group discussions, exchanging ideas on key obstacles affecting the attainment of targets outlined in the report, as well as possible solutions to improve performance across various sectors.

During the retreat, Geoffrey Ssemaganda delivered a lecture on leveraging valuable resources through Artificial Intelligence, highlighting the growing role of technology in improving efficiency and decision-making.

While closing the first day of the retreat, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga commended participants for their dedication, noting that their contributions are vital to the Kingdom's progress.

"The retreat helps us to know one another, understand the work done in the Kabaka's various institutions, and enables staff to gain insight into how others perceive their institutions," Mayiga said.

He added that the retreat serves as a bridge connecting the Kabaka's work and plays a crucial role in empowering young staff. "It also helps young staff to step forward and speak before delegates, because the youth are the Kabaka's future force, and such platforms build their confidence," he emphasized.

The retreat is being held under the theme: "Enhancing standards in all circumstances."

Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, the Second Deputy Katikkiro and Treasurer, explained that the theme reflects the need to transform people's livelihoods through improved service delivery and innovation.

On the second day, participants are expected to receive training focused on improving standards in kingdom programmes, including key initiatives such as the Kabaka Education Fund and Digital Luwalo Lwaffe. Discussions will also cover land management, dispute resolution, and modern data collection methods using digital tools such as tablets.

It was noted that outcomes from the retreat will be prioritised in the 2026/2027 Buganda Kingdom financial year.
