Kenya: Kabogo Appoints Johana Ng'eno's Widow to ICT Authority Board

Nairobi — Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has appointed Naiyanoi Ntutu Ng'eno, the widow of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng'eno, to the board of the Information and Communication Technology Authority (ICTA).

In a gazette notice dated Thursday, April 2, 2026, Kabogo named Naiyanoi Ntutu as a board member for a three-year term, effective from the date of publication.

Her appointment places her at the centre of ICTA's governance, where she will help steer policy, oversight, and the strategic direction of the authority, a key institution in driving Kenya's digital transformation and e-government agenda.

The move was welcomed by ICTA Board Chairperson Lily Ng'ok Kirui, who expressed confidence in Ntutu's ability to contribute meaningfully to the board's mandate.

In a message shared on social media, Kirui said she looked forward to working closely with the new appointee.

"Welcome to the Information and Communication Technology Authority Board, Naiyanoi Ntutu Ng'eno. I look forward to working closely with you, I have no doubt in your abilities and the contribution you will make to the team. Together, we will fulfil our collective mandate" she said.

Naiyanoi Ntutu rose to national prominence following the death of her husband, Johana Ng'eno, who died in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026, alongside five other people.

Elders of Kapkaon Clan had backed the widow of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng'eno, to run for the parliamentary seat that her husband left vacant when he died tragically.

This is to protect the political legacy and make sure things stay the same.

The endorsement happened at a meeting on March 12, 2026, at Naiyanoi's home in Mogondo village, Emurua Dikirr Constituency.

More than 300 elders came together not only to pay their respects but also to talk about who should lead the area in the future. In the end, they all agreed that Naiyanoi would be the best choice. The elders said that the decision was based on honoring Johana Ng'eno's lasting legacy.

Naiyanoi's potential candidacy was said attract sympathy votes from constituents who closely associated the late MP with the struggles of landless families and marginalized communities.

However, she did not heed to the endorsement and opted out of the United Democractic Alliance nominations.

David Kipsang Keter won the UDA nomination for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election after a closely contested exercise held ahead of the May 14 by-election.

According to the results, Keter garnered 13,749 votes to secure the party ticket, narrowly defeating Bernard Kipkoech Ngeno, who received 13,394 votes.

The nomination attracted attention due to the tight margin between the two candidates and the turnout of voters in the constituency.
