According to Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the fatal incident occurred in Butyamba Village (Butyamba IDP area), Kikuube Town Council, when Banura was reportedly struck by a speeding Toyota Hiace while engaging with local residents.
"The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. However, the vehicle has since been recovered and impounded by police," Rusoke said. "Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest the driver to assist with the ongoing investigations."
Banura was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Several other individuals injured in the accident were also taken to the hospital for urgent medical care. Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of casualties or the severity of injuries.
The late Banura was the son of National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war veteran, Major General (Retired) Matayo Kyaligonza. His sudden death has sent shockwaves across Kikuube District and beyond, with leaders and residents mourning the loss of a prominent local figure.
