Kenya: Somali Community Driving Regional Influence Recognized At Nairobi Awards

Nairobi — The second East Africa Somali Awards has highlighted the growing economic, social, and cultural influence of the Somali community across the region, drawing leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, and policymakers to the Argyle Grand Hotel on Mombasa Road.

The awards recognized achievements across business, entrepreneurship, innovation and technology, media, arts and culture, community leadership, and humanitarian impact, reflecting the diverse contributions of Somali individuals to East Africa's development.

Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Bare Duale underscored the community's role in shaping regional growth.

"Your resilience and innovation have driven progress in business, trade, education, and public service," he said, linking individual achievement to collective societal impact.

He urged youth to take leadership roles today, emphasizing that economic and social influence grows from collaboration across sectors.

"This platform was created to recognize the brilliance, resilience, and achievements of our people," Yusuf said to a packed audience.Too often, our stories of innovation and impact go untold. Tonight, we change that,"said its CEO Ridwan Yusuf.

Key awardees included Nathif Jama Adam, Governor of Garissa County, recognized for advancing regional development and community empowerment, and Somalia's Ambassador to Kenya, Jibril Ibrahim, for strengthening diplomatic and socio-economic ties.

Wajir South MP Mohammed Adow received recognition for leadership in community service, highlighting the intersection of governance and grassroots development.

Observers noted that the event underscored how diaspora and regional communities are increasingly driving cross-border business networks, innovation hubs, and cultural initiatives, supporting economic integration and social cohesion.

By spotlighting emerging talent alongside established leaders, the awards sought to position Somali entrepreneurs, policymakers, and creatives as key contributors to East Africa's economic and societal growth, emphasizing that influence extends beyond individual success to broader regional development.
