Kenya: KRA Names Lilian Nyawanda Acting Boss As Humphrey Wattanga Exits

Nairobi — The Kenya Revenue Authority has appointed Lilian Nyawanda as Acting Commissioner General, replacing Humphrey Wattanga who proceeds on terminal leave.

In a statement, KRA Board Chair Ndiritu Muriithi said Wattanga will exit early after the board decided not to renew his contract.

Nyawanda, who currently serves as Commissioner for Customs and Border Control, will take over in an interim capacity as the authority begins the process of recruiting a substantive Commissioner General.

"The Board takes this opportunity to commend the outgoing Commissioner General for his dedicated service and leadership to the Authority and the country," Muriithi said.

He added that Wattanga played a key role in advancing KRA's mandate, including spearheading organisational restructuring reforms.

The board said it will undertake a competitive recruitment process to fill the position permanently.
