Kenya Vision 2030 Picks New Acting Director General

Nairobi — The Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat (VDS) has appointed James Maina as the new acting Director General.

Maina joins the Secretariat from the State Department for Economic Planning (SDEP) following a recommendation by the Board and appointment by Principal Secretary Bonface Makokha.

According to SDEP Administrative Secretary Haron Komen, Maina has played a key role in shaping Kenya's development agenda.

"Over the course of his career, Mr. Maina has played a pivotal role in shaping Kenya's development agenda. He coordinated the preparation of the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) and was instrumental in the development of the Third Medium Term Plan (MTP III) under the Kenya Vision 2030 framework," he said.

He added that Maina also oversaw country reporting on the Africa Agenda 2063 First Ten-Year Implementation Plan.

Maina replaces Kenneth Mwige, who proceeded on terminal leave effective April 1, 2026, ahead of the end of his contract on June 30, 2026.
