Rosemary Bareeba, the Resident Judge of the High Court in Mukono, has urged university students to prioritise career readiness and responsible use of social media as they prepare to enter an increasingly digital workforce.

Judge Bareeba made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing law students at the Annual Law Symposium held at Kabale University in Kabale Municipality.

The symposium was held under the theme "Innovation and Future of Law."

She encouraged students to cultivate a positive mindset, acquire digital skills, and align themselves with the evolving demands of the Judiciary and the wider job market.

According to Bareeba, academic excellence alone is no longer sufficient without discipline, adaptability, and a forward-looking attitude.

"I call on young people to use social media productively. The platforms can generate income if used responsibly, instead of being misused in ways that could damage future careers," she said.

Justice Bareeba also commended the university's Faculty of Law for organising the symposium, noting that such engagements provide students with practical insights, mentorship, and inspiration from experienced professionals.

"The university should continue and expand similar initiatives to benefit students in other disciplines," she added.

Faculty of Law Dean Charlotte Kabaseke said the symposium plays a key role in guiding students on both academic and career pathways.

She noted that interaction with experienced practitioners helps students better understand real-world expectations.

Meanwhile, Arnold Ndagije, the Regional Human and Legal Officer for the Kigezi Region, highlighted the rapid transformation of the legal profession driven by emerging trends such as Artificial Intelligence.

"I want to urge students to equip themselves with relevant knowledge and skills," Ndagije said.

The symposium forms part of broader efforts to prepare law students for a dynamic legal landscape shaped by technology and innovation.
