Police in Kawempe Division have arrested two suspects linked to a string of violent robberies involving panga-wielding attackers who have been terrorizing residents.

The suspects, identified as Najjib Serwanja and Derrick, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted on April 21, 2026, along Tula Namere Road.

According to Racheal Kawala, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operation followed numerous complaints from residents about escalating night attacks.

"These suspects are believed to be part of a group that has been breaking into homes, assaulting residents, and robbing them of their property," she said.

During the arrest, police recovered several items believed to have been used in the crimes, including pangas, housebreaking tools, and two suspected stolen mobile phones.

Authorities also impounded a motorcycle, registration number UGD 081D, which the suspects were using at the time. Police said the number plate had been deliberately concealed.

"Our forces are intensifying efforts to apprehend other suspects involved in these violent robberies. Investigations are ongoing," Kawala added.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with police stepping up operations to dismantle the wider criminal network.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity as authorities work to restore security in the area.
