The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces has passed out 53 officers who successfully completed the Platoon Commanders' Course at the 5 Infantry Division Training School in Labwordwong, Agago District, in a ceremony marked by calls for professionalism, leadership, and continued investment in military training.
The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine Commander, Brigadier General Wycliffe Keita, who commended the 5 Infantry Division for its commitment to strengthening professional military education within the force.
Brigadier General Keita reaffirmed the UPDF leadership's commitment to supporting military training institutions across the division, noting that training schools remain central to building a capable and disciplined force.
"Training institutions are critical in shaping the human resource capacity of the UPDF. Addressing the existing gaps in training infrastructure and resources will greatly enhance the operational effectiveness of our forces," he said.

He also praised instructors and command leadership for successfully conducting the course and preparing officers for greater responsibilities in the field.
The Deputy Commander of the 5 Infantry Division, Colonel Gai Mpadwa, urged the graduating officers to apply the leadership principles and tactical skills acquired during training in their respective units.
"Platoon leadership remains the backbone of the UPDF. You should therefore use the skills gained here to enhance professionalism and effectiveness in your units," he said.
Colonel Mpadwa added that the division would continue supporting the training school to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality military instruction, commending instructors for their discipline and coordination throughout the training period.
The Commandant of the 5 Infantry Division Training School, Colonel Simon Onyinge, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to producing competent officers capable of executing their duties in line with the UPDF mission.
During the ceremony, several officers were recognized for outstanding performance in different categories: Lt. Clement Akol - Best Male in Academics,Lt. Catherine Birungi -- Best Female in Academics, Lt. Bernard Ebrut -- Best Overall in Field Training, Lt. Moses Karuhanga -- Discipline Award, Lt. Prisca Akello -- Best Female in Field Training, Lt. Henry Kariho -- Best in Leadership
The event was attended by senior and junior officers, military instructors, and invited guests, underscoring the UPDF's continued focus on leadership development, operational readiness, and professional excellence within its ranks.
