Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, the outgoing Kanungu District LCV Chairperson, officially handed over office to Chief Administrative Officer Abdallah Awuye on Saturday, May 10, 2026, marking the end of his 2021-2026 leadership term.
The handover ceremony, held at the Kanungu District headquarters, was witnessed by the Resident District Commissioner, the Assistant LCV Chairperson, the District Internal Auditor, heads of departments, technical staff, and members of the media.
The exercise was conducted in line with Article 175 of the Constitution, the Public Service Standing Orders 2021, and Section 186 of the Local Government Act, which require outgoing public officials to formally hand over office and responsibilities.
Speaking during the ceremony, Kajojo expressed appreciation to the district administration for what he described as exceptional teamwork and cooperation throughout his tenure.

"I express profound gratitude to the entire district administration for the exceptional cohesion and teamwork that characterized my term. This collaborative spirit steered significant development initiatives across Kanungu," Kajojo said.
Kajojo also congratulated District Chairperson-elect Francis Byamukama Kapesha, who previously served in his administration as one of the district ministers.
He expressed confidence that Kapesha's leadership would ensure continuity of the district's development agenda and ongoing programmes.
Reflecting on his tenure, Kajojo highlighted several achievements, including the commencement of the new district administration block, improvements in infrastructure, enhanced community participation through groundbreaking ceremonies, and improved welfare among residents.
He particularly praised CAO Abdallah Awuye for bringing administrative stability to the district over the last two and a half years.
"Before Awuye's arrival, the district frequently experienced changes in CAOs, with some serving for as little as eight months. His tenure has been a blessing to Kanungu -- leading to registered achievements, improved attendance to duty, effective implementation of government programs, and consistent unqualified audit opinions," Kajojo stated.
According to Kajojo, Awuye played a major role in stabilizing the district administration and improving working relations between political leaders, civil servants, and the Resident District Commissioner's office.
He appealed to the central government to retain Awuye in Kanungu District to sustain the progress already registered.

District Chairperson-elect Francis Byamukama Kapesha congratulated Kajojo upon what he described as a peaceful and orderly transition, hailing him as a mentor who helped shape his political career.
"I reaffirm my commitment to building upon the existing developmental strides and ensuring continuity," Kapesha said.
While CAO Abdallah Awuye assumes caretaker responsibilities in the interim, Kapesha is expected to officially take office after his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 19, 2026.
The handover marks another transition in local government leadership as districts across Uganda prepare for newly elected leaders to assume office following the recent general elections.
