Uganda: U.S. Pledges Continued Partnerships With Uganda in Museveni's New Term

The United States has congratulated President Museveni on his inauguration for another term in office, pledging continued cooperation with Uganda in trade, regional security and public health.

In a statement issued by the US Department of State's Bureau of African Affairs on Tuesday, Washington said it remains committed to strengthening ties with Kampala in areas of mutual interest.

"The United States congratulates Yoweri Museveni on his inauguration as President of Uganda," the statement read in part.

The US delegation at the ceremony was led by Mr Nick Checker, the State Department's Senior Bureau Official for African Affairs, who represented Washington at the swearing-in ceremony held at Kololo Independence Grounds.

"We look forward to continuing our partnership with Uganda to advance shared goals, including shifting from aid to trade and investment, supporting regional peace and security, and preventing dangerous disease outbreaks through sustainable health systems," the statement added.

The message was delivered as President Museveni was sworn in for another five-year term during a ceremony attended by several African leaders, diplomats and foreign delegations from across the world.

More than 30 foreign delegations attended the inauguration, with regional leaders and senior envoys arriving in Kampala ahead of the ceremony, underscoring Uganda's diplomatic ties and strategic partnerships.

The swearing-in followed days of heightened state preparations, including a state dinner hosted by President Museveni at Speke Resort Munyonyo for visiting dignitaries and diplomatic guests.

Earlier on Monday, President Museveni met Mr Checker at State House Entebbe, where discussions reportedly focused on trade, industrialisation, regional peace efforts and expanding economic cooperation between Uganda and the United States.

The renewed US commitment signals continuity in bilateral engagement, particularly around development cooperation and investment-driven partnerships as Uganda enters a new political term under Museveni's leadership.
