Kenya: TikTok Removes 820,000 Videos in Kenya Safety Crackdown

NAIROBI,Kenya,May 19-TikTok has taken down 820,552 videos in Kenya in the fourth quarter of 2025 as part of its latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.

The report shows that the vast majority of the removals were carried out before user reports, reflecting the platform's increasing reliance on algorithmic detection systems.

The company said 99.9 per cent of the flagged content was proactively removed before being reported by users, while 98.4 per cent was taken down within 24 hours of posting, highlighting the speed of enforcement under its moderation framework.

TikTok also disclosed that 108,752 accounts in Kenya were banned over the same period, with a significant share linked to suspected users below the age of 13, which violates platform policy.

"A significant portion of these , 93,704 accounts, were suspected of being accounts aged below 13, which is a violation of our rules."

On a global scale, the platform removed more than 175 million videos during the quarter, with over 152 million detected and removed using automated systems.

TikTok said 99.1 per cent of harmful content globally was removed proactively, while 93.4 per cent of flagged material was taken down within 24 hours.

The company maintains that its moderation strategy combines artificial intelligence tools with human review teams to curb misinformation, hate speech and other violations, even as regulators worldwide continue to scrutinise social media platforms over content governance and child safety.
