The High Court has sentenced Charles Kyagaba, a notorious land grabber in Wakiso District, to eight years' imprisonment on two counts of obtaining money by false pretences, with each count carrying a sentence of four years to be served consecutively.
Kyagaba, together with others still at large, had for years terrorised residents of Wakiso District, especially in Entebbe, by fraudulently claiming ownership of their properties and selling them to unsuspecting victims.
Earlier on Friday, the Entebbe High Court Circuit convicted Kyagaba on several charges, including Malicious Damage to Property, Fraudulent Procurement of Land Titles, Criminal Trespass, Assault, and Forcible Entry, among others.
Kyagaba was first arrested and arraigned before court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in 2022 following a public outcry and numerous complaints from residents in Entebbe.
The conviction follows years of complaints from affected residents over fraudulent land claims and related offences allegedly committed by Kyagaba and his associates.
