James Ruugi Kaberuka has urged leaders in Kanungu District to fight corruption and avoid political quarrels that undermine unity and slow development.
Kaberuka made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected district chairperson, speaker and councilors.
He congratulated the new leaders and reminded them that residents of Kanungu have high expectations regarding service delivery and development.
The legislator called on the district leadership to uphold integrity, honesty and transparency in their work, describing corruption as one of the major obstacles affecting effective service delivery.
"As leaders, you should focus on issues that unite people instead of engaging in conflicts and misunderstandings that create division. I urge leaders to work together to address challenges including poor infrastructure, poverty and youth unemployment," Kaberuka said.
He further emphasized the importance of cooperation among political leaders, technical staff and councilors, noting that teamwork is critical for meaningful transformation in the district.
Kaberuka also encouraged the newly sworn-in leaders to prioritize the interests of residents and ensure proper utilization of government resources for community benefit.
