Kenya: Cherargei Claims Uda Plans to Field 'Mole' Candidates in DCP

Nairobi — Samson Cherargei has alleged that the ruling United Democratic Alliance plans to infiltrate the opposition Democracy for Citizens Party by sponsoring government-friendly candidates ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, the Nandi Senator claimed the strategy would target the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race, where succession politics are already intensifying ahead of Governor Anne Waiguru's exit after her second term.

Cherargei accused DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua of turning the party into what he termed a "highest bidder" outfit and alleged that some candidates funded by rival interests would secure party tickets.

He further claimed UDA intended to maintain influence in the Mt Kenya region even through candidates running on opposition tickets, saying the ruling party would field candidates both directly under UDA and indirectly through DCP.

The remarks come as former Purity Wangui Ngirici and Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina emerge among politicians linked to the opposition camp in the region.
