Southern Africa: Angola Seeks Strengthened Strategic Position in African Logistics Corridors

Luanda — Angola intends to reinforce its strategic position in African logistics corridors and create conditions for the development of new industrial chains linked to the energy transition, said this Tuesday, in Luanda, the Secretary of State for the Civil Aviation, Maritime and Port sectors, Adilson Alves Catala.

Speaking at the opening of the national workshop to launch the feasibility study for the implementation of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), the official highlighted that the challenge consists of transforming knowledge into action, studies into policies and potential into concrete investments capable of generating economic, social and environmental value for the country.

Adilson Alves Catala said the government's vision is clear and wants Angola to be prepared to integrate a new economy of sustainable aviation fuels.

"Not only as a consumer market, but also as a potential producer, regional supplier and energy logistics platform at the service of the sustainable development of aviation in Africa", Catala said.

The State Secretary added that the production of biofuels in Angola must fully respect the principles of national food security, favoring sustainable raw materials and technological solutions that do not compromise agricultural production intended for human consumption or the stability of ecosystems.

He highlighted that sustainable aviation fuel represents precisely one of these opportunities to value national resources, strengthen the production base, attract new investments and develop skills.

According to the Secretary of State, the future of aviation will be increasingly determined by the ability of countries to reconcile economic growth, competitiveness and sustainability.

"Angola is determined to be part of this transformation. It intends to do so with responsibility, strategic vision and a strong commitment to present and future generations", he emphasized.

He highlighted that the transition to sustainable fuels in aviation represents a strategic opportunity for Angola to combine environmental sustainability with economic growth, positioning itself as a relevant regional hub in the new green economy.

The official underscored that the development of a sustainable fuels value chain can contribute to the diversification of the economy, industrialization, attraction of private investment, technological innovation, and formation of specialized knowledge, creation of qualified jobs and reinforcement of the country's international competitiveness.

He said that the workshop, in addition to being a technical issue, represents an integrated vision for the future of aviation, environmental sustainability and economic development.HM/CS/AMP
