Nairobi — A Kibera court has issued a warrant of arrest against former National Economic Development Party (NEDP) Executive Director Daniel Mokua Onsomu after he repeatedly failed to appear in court to face fraud charges involving more than Sh2 million.
The warrant was issued by the Kibera Chief Magistrate's Court following Onsomu's absence during several scheduled court appearances, including mentions held on June 11 and June 24, 2026.
Onsomu is accused of obtaining Sh2.05 million from businessman Daniel Nyakundi Osiemo by false pretences between September 8 and October 6, 2022.
According to court documents, the accused allegedly convinced the complainant that he was in a position to assist him in obtaining information related to a parcel of land. Prosecutors claim the representation was knowingly false and was used to unlawfully obtain the money.

During the latest court appearance on June 24, Onsomu again failed to attend proceedings. His lawyer, Mose Nyambega, sought an adjournment through a letter dated June 22, explaining that he had suffered a knee injury following an accident and was unable to appear in court or adequately handle the matter.
Despite the explanation, the court ordered the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Lang'ata Police Station to trace, arrest and present Onsomu before the court.
The case has also drawn attention due to Onsomu's previous links to internal wrangles within the National Economic Development Party.
His name surfaced during a dispute that prompted former Nairobi Governor and NEDP party leader Mike Sonko to suspend party activities over allegations that some officials were soliciting money from aspirants seeking opportunities within the party.
The matter is scheduled for mention on July 23, 2026, when the court is expected to receive an update on efforts to locate and arrest the accused.
