The African Development Bank Group's Internal Audit Function has been awarded the Global Quality Certification by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), following the successful completion of an External Quality Assessment (EQA).
The Function achieved a "Fully Achieves" rating, the highest under the Global Internal Audit Standards, a recently introduced international benchmark for the profession.
The certification follows an independent review conducted by IIA Quality Services (IIA QS), the external assessment arm of the Institute of Internal Auditors, which assessed the effectiveness, independence, and overall quality of the Bank's internal audit activities.
This recognition provides independent international validation of the Internal Audit Function's performance and reinforces the Bank Group's commitment to strong governance, accountability, risk management, and internal controls.
"Achieving a 'Fully Achieves' rating under the Global Internal Audit Standards is a significant milestone for the Bank. It confirms the strength, independence, and quality of our internal audit function and reinforces our commitment to sound governance and accountability," Maurice Goddard, Bank Group Auditor General, said.
The mandatory independent review is conducted at least every five years by qualified external assessors. Such assessments provide an independent and objective assessment of the effectiveness, independence, and overall quality of internal audit functions against internationally recognized standards, and are a core element of the profession's quality assurance framework.
About The IIA:
The Institute of Internal Auditors supports the profession and prepares internal auditors worldwide with a real community, relevant resources, and professional development to mitigate current and future risks, provide assurance, add real value, and elevate the impact of their organizations.
