Kenya: Ketraco Opens Sh65bn Private Power Pine Projects for Public Review

Nairobi — The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) has opened to public scrutiny privately initiated electricity transmission projects worth between Sh50 billion and Sh65 billion under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework.

The proposals, submitted by a consortium of Pabari Investment Limited, ENCOMM Power Rental Solutions Limited and AEE Power Ventures S.L., cover four strategic transmission projects under KETRACO's Transmission Master Plan 2025-2044.

The projects include new high-voltage power lines and substations in Mutomo, Voi, Taveta, Maralal and Kilgoris, and are expected to improve grid reliability and expand electricity access if approved.

KETRACO said the proposals will undergo the approval process required under the PPP Act, 2021, including technical, financial and legal evaluations, stakeholder consultations and negotiations. The utility emphasized that publication of the proposals does not amount to project approval.

The projects are targeted for completion between the 2028/29 and 2030/31 financial years. KETRACO has also invited other private investors to submit competing expressions of interest within 21 days as the government seeks to attract private capital to expand Kenya's electricity transmission network.
