Police have intensified security operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area to ensure that the ongoing Local Council I (LC I) elections are conducted in a peaceful, safe and orderly environment.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rachael Kawala said security agencies are working jointly to protect voters, election officials and members of the public as polling continues across the city.

She said the electoral process has remained largely peaceful, although a few isolated incidents have been reported.

"We have deployed heavily in coordination with other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of all voters. As we speak, voting activities are still ongoing and the situation remains generally peaceful, apart from a few isolated incidents," Kawala said.

She added that police have increased both foot and motorised patrols across Kampala Metropolitan Area to maintain law and order, prevent disruptions and respond quickly to any emerging security concerns.

"We have intensified both foot and motorised patrols across the Kampala Metropolitan Area to maintain law and order, prevent any disruptions and ensure the electoral process continues smoothly. We remain committed to ensuring that the entire electoral process proceeds safely, peacefully and in an orderly manner," she said.

Police said monitoring of the security situation will continue throughout the election period, with updates provided whenever necessary.

Kawala appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel and uphold peace as voting continues, assuring the public that security agencies are committed to ensuring a safe and peaceful electoral process.
