Africa: Ethsafari Marks Five Years Connecting Africa to Global Blockchain Ecosystem

Nairobi — ETHSafari is marking its fifth anniversary this year, celebrating its growth into one of Africa's leading blockchain gatherings connecting the continent's developers, entrepreneurs and communities with the global Web3 ecosystem.

Founded after African blockchain leaders repeatedly encountered questions about the continent's innovation ecosystem at international conferences, ETHSafari was created to showcase Africa's blockchain story through the voices of its own builders.

Named after the Swahili word for "journey," ETHSafari combines technology, culture and travel. The event begins in Nairobi with workshops, networking sessions and the ETHSafari Hackathon, where developers build blockchain solutions, receive mentorship and compete for prizes.

Participants then travel aboard the BlockTrain on Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway through Tsavo National Park before the event concludes in Kilifi with a conference bringing together developers, investors, researchers, creators and blockchain communities from Africa and around the world.

Over the past five years, ETHSafari says it has helped connect local talent with global organisations while positioning Kenya as a hub for blockchain innovation and collaboration. The initiative has attracted support from organisations including Visa, the Ethereum Foundation, DFINITY Foundation, Brave Browser, Polkadot, Celo, Optimism, Lisk, Coinbase and ETHGlobal.

The 2026 edition, themed "The Fifth Safari," will run from September 4 to 13 and will feature the ETHSafari Hackathon, workshops, networking events, the BlockTrain journey and the main conference in Kilifi.
